Chebucto Hiking Club’s (CHC) introduces people to hiking trails and natural footpaths in and around the Halifax Regional Municipality. Everyone is welcome.
Scheduled hikes are guaranteed to be full of exciting outdoor experiences. If you can’t make it on our weekend hikes, our regular Tuesday afternoon 10 km walk is very popular with retirees or shift workers. The start times for the Tuesday hikes change each season to 1:30 pm in the fall/winter and 4:30 in the spring/summer. Meet in the parking lot between Dollarama and Sobeys at Mill Cove on the Bedford Highway.
You can also join CHC at 10 am every Thursday morning in the parking lot of Graham’s Grove Park on Prince Albert Road (across from the Braemar Superstore) for a 10 km walk around Dartmouth or in the trails in Shubie Park.
All of our events are 10 km in length or longer. Guided walks have a designated walk leader and ender (or sweep) who are familiar with the trail, terrain, and the physical demands. The pace, which is dependent on the terrain, is generally 4-5 km/hour, with a typical 10 km walk taking 2 hours. When conditions are good, the winter walks are often with our snow shoes! You can read more about our walk ratings here.
Currently, due to the COVID-19 situation, pre-registration and proof of vaccination are required. However, hikes are not always full to the current provincial rules allowing no more than 50, so if your plans change please join us. Bring your proof of vaccine and government ID. Hikes are rarely cancelled, however, if you have any doubt please contact the hike leader listed on the schedule to confirm. All walks depart on time, so please arrive 15 minutes early. Pets are welcome but should remain leashed at all times. Please feel free to call the walk leader with any questions.
Have fun & stay healthy!
